Breastfeeding Support

The Birth Works curriculum encompasses ten sessions, but I have found success in presenting the material in eight two-hour sessions. The ninth session is a class reunion held after all the babies are born.

Here is a brief outline of the contents of each session.

Class 1 - Introductions/Exploring feelings/Watching video of newborn baby crawling up mom's abdomen to breastfeed)

Class 2 - Discussing Birth Works philosophies/Watching video"Birth in Squatting Position"/Relaxation exercise

Class 3 - "Positions for Labor" video/Nutrition/Labor complications/Medical procedures

Class 4 - Safe birth visualization/pain/pros and cons of drugs/Alternative comfort measures/videos on pros and cons of epidural and on alternative pain relief techniques

Class 5 - Audiotape of a woman in labor/Exercise/Beliefs

Class 6 - Loss and healing/Planning for the unexpected

Class 7 - Labor and delivery/Watching video depecting Stages of labor and what to expect

Class 8 - Postpartum and Breastfeeding, including a former client as guest speaker

Class 9 - Reunion party!! I host a potluck luncheon about two months after the last class baby is born.
