Class Curriculum
The Regular Class Series encompasses eight two-hour sessions. Here is a brief outline of the contents of each session.
Class 1 - Introductions/Exploring feelings/Watching video of newborn baby crawling up mom's abdomen to breastfeed)
Class 2 - Discussing Birth Works philosophies/Watching video "Birth in Squatting Position"/Relaxation exercise
Class 3 - "Positions for Labor" video/Nutrition/Labor complications/Medical procedures
Class 4 - Pain/pros and cons of drugs/Alternative comfort measures/videos on coping without medications.
Class 5 - Audiotape of a woman in labor/Exercise/Beliefs
Class 6 - Loss and healing/Planning for the unexpected
Class 7 - Labor and delivery/Watching video depicting the stages of labor and what to expect
Class 8 - Postpartum and Breastfeeding, including former clients as guest speakers
The Weekend Intensive series covers the following topics:
Introductory exercises to help you explore what you can and want to do during your labor.
Video: Positions for labor and birth
Techniques for getting the baby into the right position AND preventing tearing
Medical procedures: review of pros/cons of medical interventions
Discussion of pain, alternative comfort measures, practicing positions
Audiotape of a woman in labor
Comprehensive discussion of stages of labor and a video
Postpartum and breastfeeding
